How to Fix a Chipped Tooth
Chipping a tooth can be very stressful when it first happens, but with the right treatment, your tooth can be as good as new before you know it! A broken or chipped tooth is a common problem that often results from a blow to the mouth or chewing on a hard food. The tooth is especially vulnerable to breaking if it has already had decay, which weakens its structure. In order to fix a chipped tooth, your dentist will need to evaluate how much damage has been done. You should make an appointment as soon as possible after chipping your tooth to avoid further damage or a potential infection.
If a small piece of the tooth has chipped off, you may be able to get a filling or cosmetic bonding. Both of these solutions are made of a durable, tooth-colored resin that helps restore the natural shape of the tooth. If a larger piece of the tooth breaks off, however, you may require a dental crown. At Austin Dental Spa, our dentists offer single-visit CEREC® crowns for a faster and more convenient tooth repair process. Should you need a crown to repair your broken tooth, this will involve preparing the tooth and affixing a ceramic “cap” to the top, which helps to protect and strengthen the structure.
